In our sanskruti, elephants enjoy an exalted status and are considered sacred - owing to their association with Lord Ganesh. They symbolize prosperity & good fortune, power & strength, wisdom & integrity, vitality & fertility.

In Mewar specifically, elephants are worshiped, for their role, as 'companions in battle'. Every deodhi (entrance) has an elephant painted to ensure good health and well-being of the family. The vottary elephant is dressed ceremonially, as they are, during weddings and celebrations in the House of Mewar.
